One of my favourite spots for this is The Floating Duck. It’s not literally on a duck, of course, but the name hints at its charm and the incredible views you get. They have an amazing seafood platter that’s perfect for sharing and showcases the best of what the ocean provides. The ambience is relaxed yet sophisticated, making it ideal for a special occasion or just a really good night out.

Beyond the coast, the rolling hills and fertile plains of the Great Southern region provide an abundance of incredible produce. A place that truly embodies this is Limeburner’s Cafe. Situated right on the waterfront, it’s not just about the views (which are spectacular, by the way). They have a real commitment to using local ingredients, and their menu changes seasonally to reflect what’s best. I particularly love their lamb dishes; you can taste the quality. They also do a fantastic breakfast, so it’s a great spot any time of day.

While the well-known establishments are fantastic, sometimes the real magic happens in the smaller, lesser-known spots. These are the places locals go to when they want something consistently good, without the fuss.

For a more relaxed vibe, but no compromise on taste, you’ve got to check out The Guilty Sprout. This place is a local legend for its amazing burgers and comfort food. They use locally sourced ingredients wherever possible, and their creative burger combinations are legendary. It’s the perfect spot for a hearty meal after a day of exploring.

Another casual favourite is The Attic Cafe. Perched above the main street, it offers a cosy atmosphere and consistently delicious food. They do fantastic coffee and have a menu that caters to all tastes, from light lunches to more substantial meals. It’s a great place to relax and soak in the local atmosphere.

Sometimes, you just crave something a little different. Albany’s diverse community means we have some wonderful international flavours to explore. Due South is a prime example. While they have a strong focus on local produce and seafood, they also incorporate European influences, creating a truly unique dining experience. The wine list is also exceptional, featuring a great selection of local Great Southern wines.

For authentic Italian, Aromi is a standout. This family-run restaurant serves up incredible pasta dishes and wood-fired pizzas that will transport you straight to Italy. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it feel like you’re dining with family.
